This August has been a gust of triple-digit temperatures and heavy rains. Hopefully with some cooler temperatures and (fingers crossed) more rain coming in it’ll be the perfect time to start preparing for the upcoming seasons for your lawn and garden.
Here are a few September Lawn & Garden Tips to add to your to-do list.
Pre-emergents & Fertilizers
First, apply pre-emergent winter weed prevention as soon as possible. Use Organic Corn Gluten Meal. It will cover 3,000 sq. ft. coverage per 40 lb. bag. We also have a variety of synthetic options with dimension and gallery.
Next, we recommend that you plan a good fall lawn feeding now! Use Nature’s Creation Fall Fertilizer or Russell’s Nutra Grow 15-5-10 , 15-5-10 slow release or 28-0-0 slow release.
Non-GMOs & Organics
We are happy to offer Botanical Interests packaged seeds at our stores. Botanical Interests is a family-owned business and a leader of the packet seed business. They promote more than 500 varieties of high quality, untreated, Non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) flower, herb and vegetable seeds! Additionally, they carry a great selection of USDA Certified Organic seeds.
Now, it’s time to start working on your fall gardens. Fall vegetable plants are arriving in our stores soon, and fall vegetable seeds should be planted now. Check out this video for more details.
Overseeding
Wheat, Oats, winter ryegrass, and deer plot seeds are in the store and ready to plant. Wheat can be broadcast at the rate of 90 to 110 lbs. per acre. Oats can be broadcast at the rate of 75 to 85 lbs. per acre. Ryegrass can be broadcast at the rate of 25 to 30 lbs. per acre.
Having a happy and healthy lawn next spring requires doing a little work now. However, we are certain that you will find the results well worth it.
