Mike’s Winter Weather Tips

Cold fronts and freezing weather started early this year. With the cooler temperatures and fall rain, we are now enjoying some great fall color in our landscapes. Even though the calendar says December, there is still time to plant certain grasses, vegetables and bulbs.

Fescue and Rye grass seed can be planted now to cover any bare ground. Make sure to water until established. Some of the Russell stores still have onion bulbs in stock. Now is a perfect time to get those into the ground. Check with your local nursery for tulips, daffodil bulbs and pansies. Plant now for brilliant spring color.

Remember to protect your landscaping and pipes from the freezing temperatures. Cover your landscaping with frost cloth to protect tender vegetation. Utilize faucet covers and pipe wrap for any exposed pipes. Pipe wrap also works great on pool equipment.
