Hay Tips

Hay Tips. Stacked hay. What type of hay should you feed your horse?

Many grasses or legumes can make good hay for horses. Nutritionally, there may not be as much difference between alfalfa and grass hay as many people believe. Research has shown, for instance, that good quality grass hay may have more available protein for horses than an average quality alfalfa. The decision as to the type of hay to feed your horse depends on the type of hay is available, the quality of that hay, and the individual horse’s needs. Russell Feed & Supply has quality hay available at our stores or ready for delivery. Give us a call today.

What do you do when hay is in short supply?

You may want to check out “complete feeds.” These are feeds that are fed as a total diet, hay included. “Complete Feeds” available from Purina horse feed include Equine Senior, Equine Adult and Equine Junior. In addition, Horse Chow 100, Horse Chow 200 and Complete Advantage are also high quality hay replacement or hay stretcher products. You can find these feeds at Russell Feed & Supply.
