April 2012

We just wrapped up a busy March! Our Saginaw store 1 year anniversary was followed by our Chick Days promotion. We sold plenty of chicks and met some great folks. Our Crowley store folks showed their spirit with customized shirts. Yep, even the guys were wearing them. We rounded out the month with a booth at the Fort Worth Kennel Club Dog Show. Thanks for stopping by and supporting Russell Feed & Supply.

The weather is unseasonably warm and we have the weeds and bugs to prove it. Make sure you check out Mikes Garden Newsletter to help with the bugs and lawn. It’s hard to complain about the amount of rain we have had of late, especially after the summer we just went through. I remember during the drought the weather forecaster’s were predicting a cold and dry winter and dry spring. They may want to rethink this. Most metroplex lakes are brim full and then some. Just shows no one can predict Texas weather.

Speaking of full lakes, we have Dunn’s Fish Farm visiting our Azle location on April 2, 2012. Stop by the store and stock your ponds and lakes.

Our horse meeting is scheduled for April 12, 2012. Dr. Karen Davison with Purina Mills will discuss saddle fitting and horse nutrition. The meeting will be held at our hay barn, 12320 Bus 287 North. Call the store to sign up or RVSP online here.

Are you following Russell Feed on Facebook? If you don’t, you’re missing out! Last year we gave away some car race tickets to our Facebook friends. If you like car races, you better like Russell Feed’s Facebook page…..you could win tickets.

Have you noticed the Bluebonnets this year? What a spectacular display. I hope you have a minute to notice them this year, they are everywhere! See what a little rain will do?

Hay Report April 2012

Not much hay movement this time of year. Not much supply either. The high price of fuel will keep fertilizer and baling costs extremely expensive. With these high prices and production costs farmers will have to get more for their hay this year to turn a profit.

Round Bales: We do not expect any local hay until mid May. The hay coming from Florida is too pricey.

2 String Coastal: None Available. We expect the first cutting around June 1st.

2 String Alfalfa: None Available. Look for some later this month.

3 String Bermuda: Grower’s have new crop coming in. No price decrease yet.

3 String Alfalfa: Grower’s have new crop coming in. No price decrease yet.

See you around the barn,

Kenny
